Certified Medical Biller Certification Course
This program is designed for individuals
desiring to earn the designation of Certified Electronic Medical Biller (CEMB). This
designation is offered through the Electronic Medical Billing Network of America, Inc.,
the oldest and largest national trade association and school for homebased electronic
medical billers.
The course requires home study in a variety of publications and the preparation of various
industry-related materials as homework. Upon successful completion of this work, a final
examination is presented. Upon receiving a passing grade for this examination the student
will receive the designation CEMB. This designation may be stated and imprinted on
business materials as evidence of this accomplishment.
All student work will be personally reviewed by EMBN Executive Director, Mr. Merlin B.
Coslick. Mr. Coslick holds an M.A. from Columbia University, NYC and a B.S. from The
College of New Jersey, both in education. He has taught in New Jersey public schools for
six years and was Assistant Professor at Trenton State College for ten years. Currently,
he teaches over 100 seminars per year on medical billing throughout New Jersey,
Connecticut and New York. Mr. Coslick has written many books on all aspects of the medical
billing business and is recognized nationally as an authority and consultant for the
industry.

Medisoft Patient Accounting Software

materials will be sent to you except the newsletter which will be mailed monthly and the
final examination which will be sent upon completion of all homework assignments.
CEMB Certificates will be issued upon completion of the final examination with a grade of
70 or more.
CURRICULUM
There are three units currently offered in the CEMB Program. There are no
restrictions or prerequisites for registration. Waivers are available for those
individuals who have met certain course requirements prior to starting the program. Course
units are not available individually.
Unit I
Setting Up Your Medical Billing Business, Home-base/Part-time. Records, finances,
equipment, software,governmental/professional directories-contacts, marketing,

Patient Insurance Claim Billing Procedures for the Small Billing Center. Claims
completion explanation, submission procedures (electronic/hard copy), subsequent billing
(carriers/patients), provider interaction,
Unit III
Billing Center Management Procedures, Provider billing, fee increases,
collections, tax benefits, advanced marketing and sales techniques,
ALL COURSE REQUIREMENT
An examination must be completed and passed to obtain full credit for each unit.
WAIVERS
Unit 1
Individuals who have set up their medical billing business AND secured one or more clients
may waive Unit I by written request on company letterhead, including business card and
copy of signed client contract.
Unit II
Individuals who have had an established medical billing business with one or more
clients AND have been providing billing services for this client(s) for a term of twelve
months or longer OR who have full-time industry experience for a term of twenty-four
months or more, may waive Unit II by written request on company letterhead, including
business card AND EITHER copy of signed client contracts for at least twelve months prior
to date of application OR personal written description of twenty-four months minimum of
applicable industry experience.
Unit III
Individuals who have had an established medical billing business with two or more
clients for a term of twenty-four months or more may waive Unit II by written request on
company letterhead including business card and copy of signed client contracts covering at
least the twenty-four months preceding the date of application.
Examination
No waiver is available for the qualifying examination leading to certification.
Individuals who successfully complete all three units
offered by the School may qualify for use of the designation Certified Electronic Medical
Biller (CEMB), pending successful completion of the qualifying examination, Individual or
multiple unit waivers may be used toward qualification, The qualifying examination will be
offered following the completion of Unit III.
